Sharks edge Raiders in Morata league grand final

SHARKS beat Giburi Raiders 10-6 in A-Grade grand final of the Morata Offseason Rugby League competition at the Kone Tigers Oval in Port Moresby on Saturday.
Winger Alex Maino gathered possession after a charge-down and stepped his way past the defence for a converted try to seal the win.
It was tight as both sides defended solidly in the opening minutes.
In the 33rd minute, Sharks centre Alex Auro scored out wide to lead 4-0.
Raiders’ Jordan Koi crossed over near the uprights and Nelson James added the extras to lead 6-4 at halftime.
Raiders were leading 6-4 midway through the second half before Maino’s try and Leroy Gideon’s conversion sealed the grand final.
Referee Justin Yana was on the spot to allow play to continue with Maino’s winner with five minutes remaining before fulltime.
Sharks sponsor said he spent K15,000 to purchase the full set of uniforms from Fiji.
