Shelve govt projects, focus on private sector

Letters

IN this current health and economic crises, people are dying from curable diseases.
The cost of goods and services has increased and people are struggling to survive every day.
Most people are living in fear while some high profile people are busy getting richer at the cost of others.
Public monies should not be spent on unplanned projects during this time of uncertainty. All government institutions project proposals should go through proper planning with all the line agencies before being approved.
For example; to build an access road into a particular government institution, the administration should plan, have dialogue and have the scope of work.
The administration should give the projects to the National Procurement Commission for public tender.
You cannot just ask for millions of kina from the Government and sponsors without supporting documents for a particular project.
You cannot give contracts to your wantoks who are not qualified.
It is important that projects are carefully assessed and planned before funding.
Public servants in executive positions should be transparent in their decisions.
I believe it is best that we shelve all government projects at this time and put those millions of kina into helping businesses stay afloat.
