Shops selling days-old food

Letters

This is to the National Capital District health authority and other concerned authorities to immediately investigate a certain shop at Manu Autoport in Port Moresby.
Every time I have gone to buy scones at one of these shops, I’ve found that they seem to be selling products that are old and have gone bad.
This, I’ve found, is now normal for them.
The same baked goods are resold over 3-4 days.
Are we animals or what?
I have had arguments with their management and their response is always “if you don’t want it, someone else will buy it”.
I have also noticed mould on their goods and when brought up to the same manager, they would always try to come up with excuses.
This is really inhuman and I am urging the NCD health authority and other relevant authorities to make a surprise visit and charge them under health and safety on food sanitation Act.
At another shop, they also sell cooked food that are days old.
My child bought rice and stew last Monday and you could tell immediately that it was cooked a few days earlier.
It also had a nasty smell.
When we tried to argue with the shop managers, they tried to defend themselves.
When we asked for a refund, the managers were hesitant at first but we were supported by other customers which made them (managers) give us back our money.
These expatriate shop owners are taking advantage of our weak systems and have enjoyed an easy ride to making money by selling us cheap and overdue goods and food.
Our authorities must step up and instil some fear of the law and pressure on these people to treat us well. They are in our country but they have no respect for us.
