Show expects more visitors

Goroka Show organising committee chairman Keryn Hargreaves confirmed preparations were into its advance stage with three weeks to go before the show.
She said a good number of international tourists had booked to come Goroka for the show from as far as Israel, Germany, United Kingdom, Italy, China, Australia, Japan and other parts of Asia.
Hargreaves said the construction of stalls had started and was expected to be completed next week.
She said the special hausman (men’s house) being erected would host traditional village men teaching young boys on village crafts, skills and knowledge on making bows, arrows and show them the importance of traditional cultural activities.
“Tourists have booked hotels and accommodations in Goroka well in advance, most accommodation in town are booked out for the show period.”
She said flights into Goroka had all been booked out according to local travel agents.
Hargreaves said corporate organisations and sponsors were still welcome to support the show in cash or kind; she said any money spent would be accounted for afterward in a report.
She said the theme of the show this year was “Our Culture Our Identity”.
A Pikinini Festival would kick off proceedings on Fri, Sept 13, with the main show opening the next day.
Hargreaves encouraged farmers in Eastern Highlands and neighbouring provinces to take part in the farmers marketing pavilion.
