SHP to conduct awareness on illegal activities

AN awareness campaign will be conducted in Mendi, Southern Highlands, this month to encourage people to stop illegal activities.
Southern Highlands police commander Chief Superintendent Joseph Tondop, pictured, said the campaign on Dec 29 was to convince people to do away with tribal fights, mounting illegal roadblocks for compensation and violence against women.
“We must all agree and say ‘yes’ to living within the rule of law to improve our quality of life,” the police commander said.
“We must agree to respect others and uphold their dignity by taking part in the awareness and taking ownership of the issues affecting us.
“It will go to all the districts in Southern Highlands.
“We must, at all times, remember that the future well-being of our children depends on what we do today.”
Mendi-Munihu, Imbonggu, Kagua-Erave, Ialibu-Pangia and Nipa-Kutubu have a total population of about 515,500, according to the 2011 national census.
