THE Southern Highlands provincial government has given K300,000 to Water PNG to conduct a study on how best to supply water to Mendi town.

Southern Highlands governor William Powi said they had been in discussion with Water PNG on how to have a reliable supply water in Mendi.

He said Mendi town had been depending on water stored in tanks and from rivers for sanitation and sewerage purposes.

“This is provided for each province under the provincial services improvement programme,” he said.

“The town is expanding and we are depending on Water PNG for its expertise to provide better delivery of water to the people,” Powi said.

Acting chief executive and managing director of Water PNG Raka Taviri said a lot of water was contaminated and the challenge was to provide safe water to the people.

Taviri said without safe water people’s health was compromised.

“We are proud to partner with the Southern Highlands government in carrying out the project,” Taviri said.
