Significant education changes planned
The National, Tuesday 30th April 2013
MAJOR reforms will take place in higher education for the benefit of quality education for all Papua New Guineans, acting Higher Education, Science and Research Minister Don Polye says.
He said this included amendments to the Higher Education Act, upgrading of the office of higher education (OHE) to department status and the removal of OHE and commission of higher education reps on university councils.
Polye said the reforms would improve the management of universities where the OHE, as an authority and regulator, could work more effectively with universities.
He said a draft submission on the amendments would be made to the national executive council (NEC) for approval.
“The reforms will start with the office of higher education.”
