THIRD-PLACED Silver Tips registered a 19-8 win over Gazelle Team One in round seven of the Port Moresby Women’s Softball Association competition at the Bisini Diamonds on Saturday.
Despite the loss, Gazelle retained second spot with a higher run difference while United Sisters continued their winning run with a 20-13 victory against Mariners.
Stingerz bagged their fifth win of the season with a 21-11 victory against Wantoks while Aviat Jets triumphed over Gazelle Two 24-11.
The Gazelle-Jets encounter saw a turnaround in the Jets fielding with pitcher Symone Patimos quick off her mark to bag three strike-outs and restrict Gazelle to just four runs in the first inning.
Gazelle’s batting options in the second inning would cost them with only one run going to Falewa Geno while Jets continued their momentum, scoring a massive 18 runs to grab a 21-5 lead at the end of the inning.
Gazelle’s comeback in the third inning would fall short after managing only six runs while an extra three runs from Jets would see them clear out with the match called on runs ahead by Jets.
“This is big improvement from the girls,” Jets coach Tony Karani told The National.
“Most of them just started playing softball in the last three years, unlike our opponents who have more experience.
“So it’s great to see the progress they’re making and a bonus to our women.
“This is our third win and I’m just happy with the way things turned out for us, especially our training during the week.
“They’ve met our expectations.”
