THE Simbu Warriors are looking to re-enter the Digicel Cup next year after presenting their budget to a potential sponsor in Banz, Jiwaka, recently.
According to a statement, Waghi Food Processors Limited (WFPL) has responded favourably to a group of rugby league administrators and Warriors legends.
Warriors chairman Michael Robert thanked company chief executive Robert Mundi for entrusting them with the opportunity to draw up a workable budget for next season.
He further stressed that budgetary requirements are the responsibilities of the Franchise Owner but WFPL’s trust and confidence in the board is refreshing and sets off positive energies going forward.
Company general manager Gee Mundi explained that youths were the main consumers of their five different wine flavours.
He said it was therefore the company’s obligation and responsibility to ensure that its products were not abused.
Gee said the company was looking at providing opportunities to youths to engage in sports to showcase their raw talents in the country’s premier rugby league competition.
“You never know, there may be hundreds of Justin Olams out there waiting to explode onto the elite arena but have been denied for so long and we are privileged to provide that opportunity,” he said.
The statement said the Warriors board was now ready to submit their Digicel Cup bid to the Papua New Guinea National Rugby League Competition and PNG Rugby Football league.
Robert thanked their stakeholders, including Prime Minister James Marape, who committed K50,000, to support them.
