Delivery of public services to our people must be effective and efficient and this includes ensuring health services are accessible to all, especially people living in rural areas, says Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae.
Sir Bob said public servants should perform as expected of them and to their full potential for the benefit of our people.
“Merit based appointment of all public servants starting from the very top, must be applied, if we are to see positive changes in the public service.
“This is the first step towards alleviating many of the problems we see in the public service.
“Question is, do we need an expensive public service that is not productive or a cost effective public service that performs to expectation?
“We must always remember, that our people are the country’s greatest assets, and we must ensure they are provided with the best public services including health care services, for a better and healthy Papua New Guinea,” he said. Sir Bob said that the government would ensure every village had a health facility that they could access and every district must have a hospital.
“This Government is focused on ensuring all 21 provincial hospitals are built in time for our country’s 50th independence anniversary.
