THE PNG Business Council has acknowledged the positive contributions to private sector development by retiring Chief Secretary Sir Manasupe Zurenuoc, pictured,

Council president David Toua told a business breakfast yesterday in Port Moresby that the public service had shown “tremendous faith in collaborating with us”.

“And I’d like to personally thank one official that has tirelessly worked to ensure the voices and views of businesses are heard – Chief Secretary Sir Manasupe Zurenuoc,” he said.

“Since the reestablishment of the national working group improving business investment climate four years ago, officials and business representatives have engaged frequently on policy and law reform agendas that affect private sector.

“At times, arranging meetings have been tough due to suspicion or long standing differences.

“But the Chief Secretary used his chairmanship with great effectiveness to ensure we all talk and more importantly develop solutions. This courage has removed some barriers and allowed events like today and those to take place later to occur.

“It hasn’t been easy and we have a long way to go but we are thankful for his contribution and wish him well in future endeavours.”

He said the council was looking forward to the appointment of Sir Manasupe’s successor to “build on the foundation he has tirelessly worked to establish”.

Sir Manasupe is wheelchair-bound due to Parkinson’s disease and retires next month.
