I AM not a supporter of Sir Mekere Morauta.

I see him as a public servant, businessman and a politician who built and gained respect in whatever he  was engaged in.

He reformed the financial institutions that effectively kept them from being misused by greedy politicians who had been running these financial institutions dry.

Now I know my savings with Nambawan Super are safe and secure.

When I retire in the near future, I will go out with a golden handshake because of Sir Mekere.

Another notable legacy is the Organic Law of Political Parties and Candidates (OLIPPAC).

We now see stability in the government and businesses can operate without fear of political instability because of OLIPPAC.

We have seen its effectiveness over the years.

With respects to Peter O’Neill, Sir Mekere laid the political foundations for O’Neill to be the prime minister.

The performance of BSP now is because of Sir Mekere.

He is a true reformist and left notable legacies when he retired from politics.
