THE 2013 Sepik Ironman competition was launched on Saturday night at the Wewak Country Golf Club, in Wewak, East Sepik.

It was launched by Governor Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare during a dinner at the club.

Sir Michael assured the Sepik Ironman committee members he would support the organisation.

“You have achieved your goals over the years and I am very proud of you,” he said.

The Sepik Ironman was started in 2004 and it runs a modified event for sporting activities with more than 20 teams taking part each year.

Sir Michael pledged K10,000 to the Sepik Ironman committee. The money will help the members start their activities for the year.

Committee executive officer, Gilbert Sari thanked Sir Michael for his support and help.

He said apart from sporting activities they were running charity programmes concentrating on supporting hospitals and schools in the province.

The Sepik Ironman will be staged on June 9.
