GRAND Chief Sir Michael Somare presented Moses Meninga, pictured, a plaque at the National Football Stadium after the SP Hunters skipper played his 50th Queensland Intrust Super Cup match earlier this month.
The former prime minister paid a surprise visit to present Meninga the plaque after the forward reached the milestone in the Hunters’ 18-30 loss to the Norths Devils in round 16 in Port Moresby on July 7.
“This is a very special moment in my life as the founding father of this country (Sir Michael) has given me a lot of courage, confidence and faith to be a leader in the years to come,” Meninga said.
Meninga said he was pleased that Sir Michael had recognised his contributions to the Hunters. He said he would treasure the plaque and memory for the rest of his life.
With five matches remaining for the 13th-placed Hunters this season, Meninga is looking to play a greater role in the side as they look to end their season on a high note.
