THE Sivitatana Football Association staged its inaugural grand final at their village oval in Rigo, Central, last Saturday.
The association — launched in March — is affiliated to the Football Federation of Papua New Guinea (FFPNG).
The Rigo rural village association is on the outskirts of Kwikila station.
Bese Sisters won women’s grand final with a 2-1 victory over the Sparrows.
Giaga Maulu got the Sparrows off to a good start when she scored before the break.
Not to be outdone, Bese Sisters regrouped and equalised through Ponsy Alex after the break.
Dorothy Gini put the icing on the cake for Sisters when she got the better of the opposition keeper to net the winner.
Bese Sisters coach Jerry Keto praised his girls for working hard to claim the title.
“We played Ridicules in the eliminator and then Bela in the preliminary final, beating them both to secure a spot in the grand final,” Keto said.
“We finished the season on high note with the grand final win.
“With today’s lifestyle changing, we are promoting gender equality at the village level.
“Through sports, we aim to develop and promote girls and mothers.”
In the men’s grand final, Okari beat Gola 3-2 to claim the title.
Both teams are now looking forward to next year’s FFPNG Southern Club Championships.
