SIX boxers that fought in the NCD Boxing Club challenge last Sunday at the Lamana Hotel were commended by the organisers.
Among the six boxers is current NCD 64kg champion John Ume, who is a silver medallist in the 2017 Mini Pacific Games and a Commonwealth Games representative.
Ume, from the Konedobu Club in the NCDBA, beat Leo Koae from the Hiri Boxing Association via a split decision. “John Ume once again showed us that he is one of our best boxers and we have no doubt that he will be part of Team PNG to the 2019 Pacific Games,” tournament director Dick Larry said.
“The other boxers who impressed were PNG Games gold medallist Warren Warupi, who outclassed Neville Warupi (no relation) in the men’s 69kg division.
Pacific Games bronze medallist Allan Oaike beat Richard Paul in the men’s 60kg and Max Miria (56kg) outpointed Ray Gavera.
In the women’s bouts, Kila Ogai and Flora Loga fought to a draw.
“I’m confident both of them will be considered for selection for the upcoming national championships and hopefully the 2019 Pacific Games as well.”
Team PNG female boxer and NCD Champion Laizani Soma did not fight due to illness.
