SIX Papua New Guinea Defence Force officers completed a short-course national certificate 2 (NC 2) in training and assessment and graduated at the IEA College of Tafe in Port Moresby on Friday.
This was in line with plans by the defence force to revive its technical training unit (TTU) which was established before independence.
It was operating until during the Bougainville crisis when recruitment for technical personnel came to a halt.
According to chief of training Lt Col Dickers Esso, the training qualifies them to be instructors or facilitators.
“Once we establish the school, they will be the first instructors to facilitate all our PNGDF technical course participants going through that school,” he said.
“We are happy to achieve this and we are confident that we will continue to meet their requirements so they will recognise us as the training organisation that can deliver the courses.”
During graduation on Friday, Tafe manager Chris Jones and PNGDF trainers who graduated with the college’s national certificate in training and assessment demonstrated that they were able to train and assess to a nationally-recognised standard, and, therefore, meet the trainer registration requirements of the PNG national training council.
“Apart from meeting legislative compliance obligations, this can only add value to the quality of training delivered to PNGDF members,” Jones said.
