A FIELD goal by skipper Pitat Douglas saw Toks Hillside Rabbitohs claim a 1-0 win over Summanda Rats in the Dikoura touch competition in Port Moresby on Sunday.
With the first five minutes of extra time gone and little separating both teams, a field goal seemed the only option for either side to win the match.
After a number of failed attempts on goal, both teams opted for a try but neither side could find a way through.
Rats started on the front foot but Rabbitohs contained their efforts.
Continuous raids by Rats had Rabbitohs on the back foot on many occasions but they failed to make their chances count.
Rats looked to have sealed the match with a try in regular time but it was disallowed by referee Paul Avarapo after consulting his lines official.
Both teams finished scoreless in regular time and went into extra time weary but determined.
The teams were guilty of simple errors but it was Rabbitohs who had the last laugh after they capitalised on a weary Rats defence to kick the winning goal.
In the earlier matches, Straydogs claimed the B-Grade title with a 9-8 win over Tuene Spiders while Gevene Magpies recorded a 2-1 victory against Ludo Runners in the women’s soccer final.
Rainbow Missionary Homes managing director and competition sponsor Joseph Tonde commended organisers Danny Nobert and Justin Leo for taking the initiative to keep youths occupied.
