THE small-to-medium enterprise (SME) sector in the highlands region is looking for ways to grow.

Minister for Trade, Commerce and Industry Richard Maru announced that he would be hosting a SME night for business community in the region.

The SME night will be on Sept 21 at the Highlander Hotel in Mt Hagen, Western highlands.

Maru and other members of parliament will speak to business community on plans by the government to grow the SME sector in Papua New Guinea.

Maru also announced that he would be supporting the chairman of Indigenous Business Council Sir Nagora Bogan in promoting the council’s membership drive.

He said he would also brief the stakeholders on the work to formulate a new SME policy and master plan 2014-30 and gauge the views of the Highlands business sector during the SME event.

“It is important that we engage with our key stakeholders and solicit their input as we formulate our new SME policy and master plan, which must be completed by December,” Maru said.

The SME policy and master plan will be inclusive and homegrown, with a lot of input from stakeholders, who will later take ownership of the policy for its implementation.
