Soccer education centres to be opened in Lae, Kimbe

PAPUA New Guinea’s participation in Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) tournaments has set up a pathway for the women football in the country.
PNGFA president David Chung said the women’s football teams had participated in all OFC qualifications tournament which resulted in PNG winning four consecutive gold medals in Pacific Games.
He added that PNGFA had established an education centre and programme through OFC which would provide training for female players.
Chung said PNG would host the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Port Moresby in November and had hosted international friendlies against Japan and the USA recently.
The national football body is embarking on upskilling and educating its human resources which are very important to sustain the growth of the game. PNGFA is expected to open its two education centres in Lae and Kimbe. The Lae centre will be opened in September while the Kimbe centre will be opened after the PNG Games in the new year.
Chung said the Kimbe Education Centre is for females only.
