RUMGINAE Sports Association officials’ have appealed for a change in behaviour from players and supporters next season following a disruption to their soccer grand final two weeks ago in Rumginae, Western.
The men’s final between Spiders and Tusiks was called off after the B grade match between Beromi and HD turned rowdy when HD won a shootout 4-2.
The match saw the two teams draw 1-1 taking the game to a penalty shootout.
It was after the penalty shoot-out that the proceedings turned violent after HD changed their goalkeeper he was able to stop three of Beromi’s five attempts while HD scored four of their attempts.
The Beromi players complained to officials but their concern was not entertained, resulting in a fight with the officials that saw players from both sides involved.
Association treasurer Bero Enick said the PA system and the eskies at the official stand were damaged and guests and officials forced to leave the area. The women’s final was played earlier with Mahobe beating Beromi 3-2 goals.
“We have decided to hold back the prize money for B grade teams because of the damaged properties,” Enick said.
“The official letters have been sent to them explaining why the prize money was withheld.”
Enick said if the clubs could not pay for the damaged caused the money would be forfieted.
Enick said since the men’s main match was not played grand finalists would share the title and get K400 each.
Enick said it was a shame the association could not stage its main grand final.
