Eastern Papua Carnival to have masters

FORMER Eastern Papua Carnival players have formed a masters team to compete in the tournament which starts tomorrow at the Bisini Soccer Park, Port Moresby, says an official.
EPC general secretary George Bukoya, who is part of the masters team, said they wanted to test themselves against the “young guns” in the tournament that runs over three weekends.
“Over the last couple of years, former players of the various EPC teams would form two sides to play a curtainraiser game before the grand final. Now we’ve decided that we want to be part of the competition,” Bukoya said.
“Our theme is ‘Peace and Harmony’, where we intend to drive this message to the younger generation.
“We want our youth to see us as role models and play peacefully in the true spirit of sport.”
Bukoya was expecting a high standard this year as many teams had prepared well for it.
He said the Port Moresby-based Maela, who were the defending champions, were strongly tipped to defend their title but added that Latama and Keri were capable of causing an upset based on their strong performances last year.
The tournament starts at 9am with the confirmation of the participating teams to be done today after the close of the registration.
