SOFTBALL in Wewak is making a comeback to the national championships – thanks to Albert Seri.

Now into its third week of competition, Seri said there is overwhelming interest among New Guinea Islanders and locals who are keen on softball in the East Sepik capital.

The competition has seven teams – Manigulai 1, Manigulai 2, Hill Mates, Kreer Remix, Meni Beach, Kreer Sharks and  Defence.

Seri said Wewak Softball Association has received an invitation from the PNG Softball Federation and despite the lapse in deadline can still affiliate as they are being treated as a special case.

“I can confirm that we (WSA) have been invited to the championship.”

Seri said that he had received support from Wewak residence in particular Benedict Sam, Aron Langa, Felix Uru and the Muriki family.

Wewak played in their last championships in Kokopo in 1997 and made the bronze medal playoff at the 2012 PNG Games also in Kokopo losing to Morobe.

Seri urged Wewak residents to come forward and support softball.
