A SOFTBALL club which had been part of the Lae Softball Association will not take part in the 2018 season out of respect for its deceased founder.
President of Tigers Softball Club Lindsay Pulu made this known following the passing of the club’s founder Jack Gebore.
Pulu informed the other clubs in the Lae Softball Association that in paying respect to the late Gebore, his children withdrew the team from the competition this year.
The club will skip this season but will return next year. The club has men’s A and B grade teams in the Lae softball competition.
LSA official Paul Keleu has consulted with Pulu and both have agreed that there would not be any changes to the master draws for the men’s A and B grade games.
Both men have stated that all wash-out and future games against the Tigers would be automatic forfeitures so teams drawn against the Tigers would not have to run onto the diamonds on match days.
After the seven games played so far Admiralty Marlins are leading the men’s A grade competition with 10 points followed by Jetz, IST Manolos and Stormers on nine points, Bismark on seven popints and Moro on two points.
In the men’s B grade, after four games Bismark leads the ladder with eight points, Moro six, IST Manolos and Admiralty Marlins on four and Jetz on two points.
In the women’s A grade, after four games Daimond Stars are on six points, Stormers and IST Manolos on four, Elces on two and Jetz yet to register a point.
Meanwhile, Yokomo take on the Bears in the Port Moresby men’s softball match of the round on Sunday. Yokomo, who are coming off a win and with Colin Mangot, Tuki Zale, Micah Zale, Clifford Kouze and Adrian Chan starting to find form, the Lamana-sponsored club are expected to beat the Bears.
The Bears should provide a stiff test for Yokomo in the last A grade fixture at the Bisini diamonds.
The first game sees Saints taking on Brown Eagles in a match that probably will not be decided until the fifth inning.
Port Moresby men’s fixtures: Sun, Feb 18 — Saints v Brown Eagles, Mariners v Stingers, Defence v PNG Power,Yokomo v Bears.
