THE Papua New Guinea Softball Federation says it intends to trial strict social distancing measures if given the approval to resume competitions in Port Moresby.
Federation president Ralph Tarasomo told The National that the trial would highlighted in a proposal to be submitted to the PNG Sports Foundation (PNGSF).
“For the upcoming season, everything will be in line with the ‘new normal’ so that’s why we have to develop structures,” he said.
“Once the structures are complete, they (associations) will be able to have a feel of the ‘new normal’.
“We’re going to monitor social distancing.
“We’re also going to be keeping track of everyone coming through the gates so that if anything happens, we know who came when and from where.
“With all this information, we’re attempting a trial.
“We already spoke to our local associations in readiness so they are aware of our expectations on the way the game should be played.
“These plans are sport specific now so once we get the approval from the venue management, which is part of PNGSF, then we will announce them.
“The competitions for our men and women were winding down their season with the two into their semifinals when the Covid-19 hit so everything had been suspended.
“We want all our associations to pick up from where they left.”
