POOR health services in the Sohe district of Northern will be the main focus of the district services improvement programme fund released to the district last week.

Sohe MP Delilah Gore has described the health service condition in the district as very poor.

She said about K100,000 would go to the Kira local level government which had been denied vital government support for years. Kira is on the border of Northern and Morobe provinces.

Gore said they would consider a health centreto be built in Kira.

“There is allocation for health services in Kira. It is the remotest part of the province where there is hardly any government services,” he said.

“And the health situation is very bad. The new health centre will be the first government service to reach the area in years.”

She said three houses for medical staff will be also built.

Gore said the whole of Sohe district had been lacking development in the health sector.

“I can say the health service in the province is very poor. There is no good procurement and supply of medicines in the province and many aid posts and health centres are either closed or run-down because of lack of attention.

“In the last five months there has not been any supply of medical drugs in the district,” she said.

The K1.5 million DSIP for Sohe was given to Gore last week by Finance Minister James Marape when he visited the province.
