Soldiers in Lae raising funds for anniversary

PNG Defence Force engineering battalion in Igam, Lae initiated a “talent show” involving families to raise enough funds to host Green River dinner and parade to celebrate its 42nd anniversary in August.
The talent show with the aim of selecting a core song for the regiment began with creative dances last week, with six groups showcasing various items at Sappers Area Theatre.
A choir competition is scheduled for Thursday and string band competition the following Thursday.
Engineer Commander Lt Col Bruno Malau said they would select the core song during the choir competition that would be performed at the parade and dinner.
The occasion will begin on Aug 22.
The dinner and parade will mark the birth of the PNGDF engineering battalion on Sept 1, 1976.
