A 24-YEAR-OLD man was fined K600 in default six months’ jail by a district court in Lae for using insulting words to swear at his father on May 31.
Magistrate Pious Tapil, on Friday, also ordered Moses Damba, from Gembolg’s Mondia village in Chimbu, to pay his father K1,000 compensation.
“There are proper ways to resolve issues rather than swearing at people using offensive and insulting words,” Tapil said.
“Women’s private body parts are becoming a normal insulting word in society and that is a sign of a sick society.
“It is a sign of serious disrespect.
“The fine in default of six months’ jail in Buimo Prison is a warning to the public that the use of insulting words is offensive and against the law.”
On May 31, in Suko Block in Igam, Damba swore at his father using insulting words.
The father had tried to ask his son about an incident in the early hours of the morning in their house and Damba got angry.
The court noted that Damba started swearing at his father and tried to attack him but the community elders stepped in to help.
