A WOMAN has pleaded guilty in a magistrate’s court in Lae to assault, using insulting words and obstructing police work on June 6.
Senior Magistrate Pious Tapil, on Friday, adjourned the case to June 19 and granted K500 bail to Esther Michael, 46, from Laiagam’s Surinki village in Enga.
Tapil said even though she had pleaded guilty, the court had to hear from witnesses and the complainant before imposing penalties because she had genuine reasons.
“Working in a canteen where lots of people come at the same time can be confusing at times. Some people will give you money while others would not, so I like to hear from witnesses and the complainant before making any ruling,” he added.
On June 6, Esther was in a canteen in East Taraka market serving customers when Jackson Robert gave K10 and requested for two sausages and a scallop.
Esther took the money but did not serve him, and instead, she served other customers.
Robert waited for some time and asked for his order when she swore at him telling him to go.
Police alleged that she took a 500ml coke container full of salt and hit the complainant on his nose, causing him to bleed profusely.
