WILLIAM Mone and Presley Soto helped Central Dabaris beat Kimbe Cuttters 28-20 in round three of the Digicel Cup at the Santos National Football Stadium in Port Moresby yesterday.
It was a good start for the visitors 10 minutes in when Cutters five-eighth Jah Hogan crossed over for a try near the uprights.
He then sliced through the Dabaris’ right edge and set up Francis Nasar for the second try as the Cutters extended their lead to 12 points.
But Makara Hura and Andrew Solo capitalised on a dropped ball by the Cutters to cross over for a try.
The momentum swing continued when Soto crossed over for his first try.
Cutters defenders were caught napping halfway through the first stanza, allowing Soto to complete his double under the uprights.
Two minutes from halftime, Henao Mike combined with fullback Morea Morea to create an overlap on the left edge for Solo to give the Dabaris a 14-12 lead at the break.
The Dabaris continued the momentum in the second stanza with a try by centre Wallen Tau.
The Steve Gunua-coached side extended their lead to 20-12.
The Cutters needed more time to regroup as they were kept busy by Dabaris forwards Foni Rawa, Steven Tai, Tekila Kini and Philip Okul.
The Dabaris threatened the Cutters’ defence in the last 15 minutes and caught them napping on the left edge when Mone scored a try off his own kick.
A late reply by the Cutters was not enough to stop the Dabaris from recording their first win of the season.
