South Bougainville MP assures students of school fee subsidies

SOUTH Bougainville MP Timothy Masiu says 2024 tuition fees for students in his electorate will be paid.
A notice was sent out last year for students to submit their school fee applications for this year. The deadline closed last March 15 and two weeks was given for individual checks on applications after the deadline.
“Our District Development Authority (DDA) board approved an allocation of K1.2 million towards the education programme .
“This was a priority funding for education, especially after the crisis. “This funding is the ceiling for this programme,” Masiu said.
“The decision was made in 2017 and caters for all our students attending tertiary institutions in PNG and overseas.
“We do not expect non-South Bougainvillean students to apply because other MPs are also running similar programmes for their students.
“But if we do pick up applications from outside, they can be assisted after proper quality checks are made, and depending on funding availability.
“Our team for the programme are required to carry out proper checks before the approval for assistance is given,” the MP explained.
Students applying would have to prove that they are from the four districts of South Bougainville.
