La Salle students get new computers

STUDENTS from La Salle Technical Secondary School, National Capital District, have received six computers for use during lessons, thanks to Bank South Pacific Financial Group Limited (BSP).
The bank had beefed up students’ digital learning through the refurbishment of the school’s computer laboratory and buying six new computers complete with unlimited power supply equipment and the installation of basic software including Microsoft office suite and anti-virus.
This was part of BSP’s annual community project initiatives rolled out by its corporate team.
Corporate general manager Peter Beswick said: “While we stand as a corporate organisation, each of our staff is part of a community; that is why these community projects are conducted across all our branches in PNG, including the Pacific markets where we operate in.”
Students have used refurbished computers that were donated 10 years ago in a computer laboratory that needed a facelift and had been seeking assistance for the last three years.
La Salle Technical Secondary School principal Br Antony Pancras said the school offers technical and vocational education training (Tvet) courses – one of which is information technology (IT) – and this project will have a positive impact on the IT students.
“They now have the advantage of using the new PCs with updated software. The refurbished ones they were using are slow,” Pancras said.
He said this is not the first time BSP has supported the Lasallian family.
“While serving as the principal for De La Salle Secondary School at Bomana two years ago, BSP also delivered the e-library which benefitted the students and the school greatly.
“BSP’s support is greatly appreciated by the school community and the Lasallian family in PNG.
“BSP is not only assisting just students but shaping PNG’s future leaders,” Pancras said.
The BSP corporate team and their families spent two weeks to assist with the laboratory renovation works before handing over the project to the school on March 8.
