THE South Pacific (SP) Brewery in Lae marked its 1,460 days (four years) of safety without an accident last Thursday.
The brewery, which employs 180 employees, places great emphasis on safety at the work place.
Brewery manager Gilbert Rothmaier said: “By ensuring a safe environment to work and by practicing safety in everything we do, employees get to go home to their families safe and sound.
“But safety is not expected from just our employees.
“We also ensure casuals, contractors and visitors adhere to our safety first policy, to ensure they visit and leave our site safely. Safety is everyone’s responsibility.”
Rothmaier said when it came to safety, rank and file did not matter, as all employees were important.
“It is this aspect that allows a platform of similar-minded people to self-correct and accept correction by others as care, instead of criticism. The structural guidance by the Heineken Safety Rules provide a clear framework and this has eliminated any form of distraction.”
The brewery marked this milestone with a small staff celebration last Friday which also involved a small certificate presentation to its first aid officers.
