Southern Highlands pays K4mil for parents’ component

THE Southern Highlands government paid K4 million last week to schools in the province for the parent component of tuition fees.
Governor William Powi said it was for the second half of the year from the K10 million allocated in their 2021 Budget from primary schools up to tertiary institutions.
Powi said they had released K4 million in the first half of the year.
The remaining K2 million will be paid before the end of the year.
“The second payment of parents’ component of school fees for primary, high schools, secondary schools and tertiary institutions has been released,” Powi said.
“In 2020, the provincial government appropriated K10 million for the parent component of school fees.
“In 2021, we appropriated a further K10 million of which K4 million was paid to schools to cover January to June.
“The provincial administrator has advised me that another K4 million has been released to schools, bringing the total payment for parental school fee component to K8 million appropriated in the 2021 provincial government budget. The money has been released to all the schools so there shouldn’t be any principals or school boards putting pressure on the people.
“We’ve assured our people to pay the parent component and now we have delivered upon it.”
