TEAM SHP has publicly apologised for the physical assault on Team NCD rugby 9s players during the 2017 BSP PNG Games in Kimbe last Friday.
Team SHP general team manager Paul Yakira said his team felt very embarrassed as the players were not there to fight and cause violence.
“We, Team SHP came here with the spirit of the Games and to bring back some lost pride to the province which was grossly affected by politics,” he said.
Yakira said media report, about supporters travelling from SHP to Kimbe was incorrect.
“The supporters involved were those who live in Kimbe and were not part of the Team SHP contingent,” he said.
Yakira said as the next host for the 2019 PNG Games, Team SHP truly and sincerely apologised for their action which has demeaned the people of Southern Highlands.
The general team manager said they were deeply sorry for their supporters’ action.
He added that there was no ill feeling against any team including NCD and SHP was prepared to host all provinces in the next PNG Games.
“We guarantee provinces that we will provide security for all the teams that will be participating the next Games in Southern Highlands,” he said.
