Southern region to stage athletics meet

THREE weeks after staging the National Track and field Championships at the Sir John Guise Stadium, Waigani, Port Moresby Athletic Association are now busy preparing for the PNG Air Southern Region Championships on Monday and Tuesday next week.
Eight teams will take part including five from within the city with the others from Kerema, Hiri and a Central provincial team.
Team managers are requested to attend a meeting with Nabase Duaba (Mob: 72003192) and John Gitiri at the Sir John Guise Stadium at 1pm tomorrow to finalise their registrations and get the programme of events.
The PNG Air New Guinea Islands Regional Championships will be held on Friday and Saturday (Sept 21-22) next week in Kokopo and will see several teams from East New Britain joined by one from New Ireland and a small group from West New Britain.
This championship is an opportunity for those athletes from the region who could not make it to the national championships to bid for selection for next year’s Pacific Games.
It is understood that 2015 gold medal winners Kupsy Bisamo, Kaminiel Matlaun and Donna Koniel are planning to participate, along with another 2015 Games team member Andipas Georasi.
