SPARROWS thrashed Rebels 48-17 in their round 3 Port Moresby Netball Association premier grade fixture at the Rita Flynn Courts on Saturday.
The Sparrows took a 12-5 lead after the first quarter.
The Sparrows’ defence coupled with consistency saw them surge out to a 27-6 lead by halftime and move to a 34-12 lead at three quarter time.
“It was a really good game on everyone’s part, I think we played pretty consistently through the game and that’s why we got the win at the end,” Sparrows vice-captain Courtney Abel said.
“Last week, we had some of our key players missing so we had to fit in some of our juniors, and our game was a little unbalanced.
“We’ve been working really hard throughout training, especially after the losing to Telstars last week, our coaches were drilling us with fitness so really came out stronger this week.
“We had some of our juniors taking the court, and I think they did a really good job in stepping up in this match.”
Former Pepes defender Kilala Owen and Abel made life hard for Rebels shooters.
Abel said she was impressed with the team’s performance and pace and hope they could maintained that to secure more wins.
