THE Agmark Gurias maintained their top three spot with a 26-12 win over the Hela Wigmen in their round 13 Digicel Cup match at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby yesterday.
Gurias hooker Bryan Gispe was outstanding with his service out of dummy half and his running game.
The Wigmen started strongly dominating the opening minutes with their hard-running pack but the East New Britons were able to absorb the early pressure and with better teamwork saw them take a 14-6. The Gurias were the first to score in the second half through winger Ilias Stanley scored.
Wigmen forward Raymond Tia was put on report for a high tackle on Gurias prop Kingston Paul.
The Wigmen were penalised again for a high tackle and this resulted in five-eighth Solomon Pokari converting the goal for his side to go out 26-12 winners.
Gurias assistant coach Albert Patak said this side were able to execute the game plan and handle the Wigmen’s aggressive approach.
He was concerned with the number of high tackles on his players.
“We are happy with the win, but learning from that match there were some things that we need to look at such as ball handling and to complete our sets,” Patak said.
