THE speaker and the parliamentary committee who removed the totems are claiming that their actions are supported by the Constitution and other legislated acts. As a person well-versed with the laws of this great nation, Theo Zurenuoc should clarify if we have a parliament act and was it developed from the Constitution. If so, does it recognise the totems as part of its integral structure and design? If it does, does it not require a vote to remove them? Also, why do MPs take their oaths using the Holy Bible when they are sworn in and say the Lord’s prayer in every parliament session? Why are other traditional rituals absent during the session?
