Special centre gets soundproof room

STUDENTS with hearing impairment studying at Mt Sion Special Education Centre in Goroka, Eastern Highlands, have a new sound-proof testing room.
Mt Sion Hearing Impairment specialist teacher Don Waipe said the days of improper testing of students with hearing problems were over.
“Sometimes, hearing tests were disturbed by external sounds like the noise of planes and cars,” Waipe said. “I am happy because we can properly identify the real needs and treat accordingly after this.”
Highlands Regional Ear Nose Throat (ENT) specialist Dr Sam Endiken thanked Mt Sion staff for working hard to bring the facility from Mt Hagen to Goroka.
Endiken said it was left sitting idle in Mt Hagen for some time.
The opening coincided with donation of four computers for students with vision problems. They were donated by the Centre for Blind Mission.
Goroka Catholic Diocese’s Bishop Darius Kaluza opened the facility. At the opening were staff and students of Mt Sion, ENT specialist Endiken, chairman of Goroka Church Council Brian Kuglame, representatives of Mapai Transport and Christian Radio Mission Fellowship.
