THE 80 grand and great grand children of Maria Rangil Kerowa of Koglamb village in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands, gave her a very special surprise during the recent Easter weekend.

Maria, who has three sons and four daughters living and working in Lae, Madang, Port Moresby and Mt Hagen, came together with their sons, daughters and their grand children to the village.

They organised a dinner for her and presented her with keys to her new house, cash and other gifts.

As part of tradition, they also presented K13,500 and eight pigs as payment to their uncles from the Nenga tribe in the Mul-Baiyer district.

Family spokesman Ivan Kerowa said they agreed to use Easter as the occasion to thank their mother for their upbringing.

Their father, Rangil Kerowa, died in 2005 at the age of 85 and left them with their mother.

Maria said she was very happy to see her grand and great grand children.

She said even though her husband passed away, she is still alive and wanted to see all her bubus grow up well, have good education and prosper in life.
