THE Veari Simbu Spiders are looking forward to reclaim the University of Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (UPNGRFL) title, with the quarterfinals this weekend.
The 2017 UPNGRFL champions are aiming for the title once again after failing to defend it last year.
Skipper Gabby Konk said his players were in great shape and had been training hard to secure a spot in the top-four.
“We were a bit disappointed last Sunday as we missed an opportunity to claim the minor premiership,” he said.
Spiders are first in Pool A and second on the overall ladder with 14 points, with Hetura Cyclones (15) claiming the minor premiership.
He thanked Commerce and Industry Minister Wera Mori for donating K1,000 to the team last week and sponsors for support.
UPNGRFL president Max Minora said this year was a good one as the participating teams had shown great cooperation and the games had been good so far.
“I would like to thank the players for their participation and cooperation. I wish the top-eight teams the best in the quarterfinals.”
