TWO field goals at crucial stages enabled the Cross Back Spiders to upset Tigers 8-6 in the Gary Juffa Cup in the Popondetta rugby league A grade preliminary final on Sunday.

The scores were tied 6-6 when Spider Simon Siro and Sammy Boroba notched the two field goals to win the torrid affair.

The Spiders advance to the grand final against minor premiers Bulldogs on Sunday.

The Spiders won on the back of a great defensive game as well as a simple plan in attack.

The Tigers led in the first half through a try by hard working prop Maika Wamp that was converted by young Joshua Sonason.

The halftime score remained 6-0 to the Tigers.

Spiders hit back in the second 40 through Siro and Boroba added the extra to equalise.

Siro and Boroba snatched 1-pointers in the final quarter to hand the Tigers a heart-breaking loss.

In the reserve grade, the Spiders downed Tigers by the same score line of 8-6 and in the Under-19s Medics narrowly beat Tigers 4-0.
