Split Morobe into 5 districts, 2 provinces

Letters

FIVE more open electorates and one provincial seat for Morobe must be created before next year’s national general elections.
Deputy Prime Minister and Bulolo MP Sam Basil, Morobe Governor Ginson Saonu and all current Morobe MPs should stand united to achieve this.
Under the current electoral laws, an MP can only represent up to 40,000 and not than that.
Menyamya, Bulolo, Lae, Markham and Finschhafen electorates have more than 40,000 people each.
We should create new electorates for Aseki, Wau, Lae East, Lae West and Hube and Umi Atzera
The province can be divided into East and West Morobe.
West Morobe will be made up of Aseki. Menyamya, Bulolo, Wau, Lae West, Umi Atzera and Markham open electorates whilst Lae East, Nawaeb, Finschhafen, Hube, Tewae and Kabwum electorates will make up East Morobe.
Lae electorate can remain as it is and operate similarly to the National Capital District Commission.
The Morobe people know and understand that the aim and purpose of this call is not about splitting the people of Morobe.
It is all about giving political and financial powers, and bringing developments to the estimated one million people of Morobe.

Samson C Napo,
Former Bulolo MP
