NETBALL will soon benefit from the ‘junior netta’ coaching programme that will be rolling out in selected locations around the country.
The Papua New Guinea Netball Federation has confirmed Lae, Kokopo, Alotau, NCD and Central as centres for the clinics.
They have extended an open invitation to primary school girls aged 6-9 years and 10-12 years old who would like to learn the basics of netball and how to aspire to become a future Pepe.
The dates of the coaching clinics are: in Lae, Kokopo and Alotau, from March 2-3, NCD vicinity March 9-10, and Central from March 16-17.
Coaching personnel will be sent there to roll-out the programme.
The Digicel Junior Netta coaching clinic is an initiative by Netball PNG and Digicel PNG aimed at encouraging and motivating primary school girls and teenagers to consider sports and healthy habits as part of their lifestyles.
Netball PNG president, Julienne Leka-Maliaki said it was a pilot project and its expansion was dependent on its success.
“By introducing basic skills, good habits and practices at a very young age, we believe we are contributing meaningfully to the social development of the girls and young women in the country.”
The project is in line with Netball PNG’s player development and talent identification programme.
