Squash leading the way at PMG

TOP seeded squash player Barbara Stubbings is set to collect her second gold medal of the Pacific Mini Games when she takes on New Caledonian Marie Pierre-Leca in the gold medal play-off today in Raratonga, Cook Island.
Kristine Seko will meet Lucy Thompson of Samoa in the bronze medal play-off.
In the men’s singles, PNG number one Michael Rucklinger will play Laurent Guepy of New Caledonia in the gold-medal play-off.
Stubbings, who already picked up a gold in the women’s team event, will enter the competition as favourite after going through her singles matches undefeated.
Despite not getting much publicity locally, the PNG squash team is making waves in Cook Islands and New Caledonia newspapers who are ranked top in the Pacific region
PNG’s Stubbings won her semi-finals match while Marie-Pierre Leca also dished out the same treatment to Lucy Thompson of Samoa.
Stubbings advances to meet Leca in the gold medal play-off while Seko will play for the bronze.
In touch the mixed touch finished with a bronze medal, their best result of the games but could have fared better if they were more consistent throughout the competition
Rugby sevens will commence their games today at Bank of Cook Island Stadium Raratonga,
Rugby union under coach Waisale Serevi will commence their competition knock-out today.
They will play Solomon, Tonga, Samoa and New Caledonia in their pool.
In bowls, the men’s fours picked up the silver.
Lead Harry Kaisa, 2nd Tom Morley, 3rd Kiliwi Nalao  and 4th Lucas Roika, all played gallantly to finished second in their competition .
However, the women’s fours missed out on the medal play-off finishing four.
These two teams  return today from Cook Islands.
The PNG medal tally stands at one gold, three silver and three bronze medals placing PNG ignominiously on 12th spot out of 22 countries  at the Pacific Mini Games.
