THE Port Moresby SSG Roosters leave for Brisbane this morning to play in the Kokomo Rugby League Nines this weekend.
Roosters comprising Port Moresby-based players have attended multiple Kokomo 9s events.
The team is captained by PNG Hunters hooker Gahuna Silas and includes former Hunters Adam Korave, Karo Kauna Junior as well as Digicel Cup talent in Junior Belo, Ilave Sapea, Jack Manda, Chiko Mairi, Gerry Ware, Kaupa Rex, Presley Soto and Junior Arova.
The rest of the squad are Amon Leslie, Richie Wama, Vewari Geno, Aidan Auga Arusa, Allen Simbiri, Rahe Buruka and Josh Erico.
Moses Matuka and Gairo and Donna Gavu are the team officials.
Most of the players have played together in the nines format in other domestic competitions like the Southern 9s and Central 9s.
“This is the final nines tournament for the SSG Roosters as officially announced by Gavu last month because of work commitments in Alotau.
Gavu said the team would be disbanded but could make a return in the future.
“This is a like gift and saying thank you to the boys for being loyal and faithful to the club. We’re going to Brisbane to win the Kokomo 9s,” Gavu said.
“We’ve trained for some time and we’re looking forward to cause some surprises down under.”
Gavu said the team return to Port Moresby on Monday.
