St John hospital gets medical equipment to mark World day

THE St John Hospital in Gerehu, Port Moresby has received medical equipment worth more than K35,000 from the Department of National Planning and Monitoring.The donation was made by its secretary Dr Peter Kora as part of the celebrations for the International World Population Day which fell on July 11.The theme for this year’s celebration is “access to reproductive health services in PNG”. Kora said the government departments were faced with many challenges to improve services.He said it was through the help of partners such as St John that services were reaching the people.He said the financial support was to show support for the provision of health services to the people Kora thanked St John for helping the government provide health services.The equipment included two blood pressure machines, 10 chairs and 10 beds.St Johns chief commissioner John Waingut said the hospital was providing level one services which should eventually reach level 4. He said a level-four hospital could be classified as a district hospital for Port Moresby.He said the hospital served 20,000 patients every month from the National Capital District, Central and Gulf.“I always tell the staff of St John that this is a humanitarian organisation and people will recognise your efforts and support you if you work with your heart,” he said.
