Stallions take loss to Hekari as a stepping stone

TUSBAB Stallions are taking their 2-1 loss to Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League frontrunners Hekari on Saturday as a stepping stone to better performances going forward in the competition.
Coach Rachael Wadunah said after her side’s performance her players had gained a lot of confidence from almost earning a 1-1 draw.
Only a last minute penalty saw the Reds escape with the win.
Wadunah said her young team were inexperienced but showed courage and fighting spirit that would only make them better as the season wore on.
“The boys held off an experienced Hekari side until the last minute but despite the loss I think we played very well,” Wadunah said.
“We have done well so far in the season, we learn new things every game and the game against Hekari was another big stepping stone for us
“These boys can match any team but it is the lack of experience that is sometimes the disadvantage because they lack composure at times.”
Stallions who are fourth on the 10-team competition ladder have won three games and lost two so far.
The Madang-based side will face another tough battle this week when they host the third-placed Vitiaz United, who shocked defending champions Lae City 2-1 in Lae last week.
Wadunah said her side would look to improve on slowing down plays with their defence and establish more coordination in the middle.
