Performance below standard, says Gunemba

LAE City coach Peter Gunemba says his side’s 2-1 loss to Vitiaz United in Lae over the weekend was a dreadful performance and below the team’s standard.
Gunemba told The National yesterday that his side did not compete as well as they could have and were like spectators throughout the game. The loss was City’s first of the season.
“We didn’t expect to play like that on Saturday and I was shocked by our performance,” Gunemba said.
“Our defence was terrible. We gave Vitiaz enough room to run their plays around us while our players were just observing instead of contesting.
“It was way below our standards. It’s the fifth round of the season and we should be more accurate and play at a higher intensity but instead we were cold which is strange.”
Gunemba said the result was a wakeup call for his men not to be complacent with the upcoming Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Champions League.
